Description
Orchids have very different needs from most houseplants, and their pots have to reflect that. In nature, many orchids grow on trees rather than in soil, which means their roots are used to constant airflow and quick drainage. A standard planter holds too much moisture around the roots, which can lead to rot. An orchid pot, by contrast, is designed to keep air moving freely and let excess water escape immediately.
This 3D‑printed pot was created with those requirements in mind. The inner pot is built from a series of curved vertical slats that allow air to circulate around the root system. The bottom includes drainage openings so water can pass through quickly. The beige outer piece functions as a drip tray, catching runoff and keeping the surface beneath the plant dry without restricting airflow.
Inner pot diameter: 5"
Be sure to resize the drip tray if you resize the pot.
The entire design was modeled in Fusion 360 and is intended for anyone who wants to print their own orchid pot at home. It’s offered for personal use only. The design may not be altered, sold, or used for commercial printing.
Printing Notes
Recommended settings
- Nozzle: 0.4 mm
- Layer height (standard): 0.20 mm
- Layer height (high detail): 0.16 mm
- Material: PLA
- Supports: Not required
General notes
- Standard cooling settings work well for both pieces
- Slower outer wall speeds improve the finish on the curved slats
- The 0.16 mm layer height produces noticeably smoother surfaces but increases print time
