This remix completely overhauls the original Bento Box concept into a fully dynamic, mathematically generated OpenSCAD engine, adding significant functional and aesthetic improvements while maintaining the core stackable premise.
Key Mathematical & Architectural Remixes:
- Dynamic Shape Engine: The original static geometry was replaced with a universal shape engine. The entire system (base, lid, spacers, and inserts) can now be dynamically switched between Rectangle, Square, and Circle profiles using a single dropdown parameter.
- Auto-Adaptive Wall Physics: I implemented an intelligent wall-thickness engine. The code now automatically calculates the required minimum wall thickness based on standard FDM 0.4mm nozzle constraints. If features like deep threads or knurling are added, the walls automatically bulk up to prevent brittle prints or slicer errors.
- FDM-Optimized Screw Threads: For circular variants, the original snap-fit system can be bypassed entirely in favor of a custom-coded, multi-start screw thread system. These threads are generated using a specific cosine wave formula that guarantees an overhang angle of less than 45 degrees, allowing them to print perfectly without supports. Lead-in chamfers and entry funnels were also engineered to prevent thread binding.
- Universal Texture Generator: A robust 3D masking and V-groove cutting system was added to allow users to apply various grips (Checkered, Square/Waffle, Ribbed, Banded) to the outer walls. The code calculates exact 45-degree intersecting diagonal slices for flat walls and helical gear intersections for circular walls.
- Smart Texture Protection Masks: To ensure that custom text labels and grip notches remain legible and functional on highly textured boxes, a dynamic masking system was added. It mathematically frames the text and notches, erasing the texture only in those specific zones to leave a smooth, protective frame.
- Advanced Custom Grid Inserts: The static internal dividers were replaced with a highly customizable array system. Users can now input a visual text array (e.g., ["AAAA", "CCCB", "CCCB"]) and the OpenSCAD engine will automatically generate merged, rounded-corner compartments based on that input. A radial "pizza slice" layout was also added specifically for the circular variant.
- Multi-Part Export Engine: To support advanced slicers (like Bambu Studio/OrcaSlicer), a unique labeling system was coded. Users can choose to export text as a standard cutout, an overlapping modifier block, or a perfectly flush, multi-color inlay that exports as a separate 3D object nested inside the 3MF file for easy color assignment. A "Blank Pad" option was also added to allow users to utilize the slicer's native text tool directly on textured surfaces.
