Descrição
Magnetic Hex-Mesh Utility Bin (Multi-Size)
This bin is designed for secure, vertical storage on ferrous metal surfaces. It addresses the common failure point of 3D-printed magnetic organizers—sliding under load—by integrating a high-friction contact plate with a dense magnetic array.
Design & Problem Solving Features
- 9-Point Magnetic Array: The rear mounting plate contains nine integrated circular pockets optimized for 12mm x 3mm neodymium disc magnets.
- Anti-Slip Ribbed Interface: The mounting surface features a horizontal ribbed texture to increase friction against metal surfaces, preventing the bin from sliding downward.
- Partial Hex-Mesh Transition: The hexagonal mesh pattern continues from the side walls and transitions into the solid, ribbed backplate to maintain structural integrity while allowing airflow.
- Ergonomic Pull Handle: A solid, angled handle is integrated into one side panel to provide a dedicated leverage point to break the magnetic seal without stressing the mesh walls.
- High Visibility: Hex-mesh sides minimize filament usage and allow for instant content identification.
⚠️ CRITICAL: DO NOT SCALE Do not use the scaling feature in your slicer. Scaling the model will destroy the tolerances required for the 12mm x 3mm magnets, render the wall thickness incorrect, and compromise the structural integrity of the hex-mesh.
Available Size Variants
The following specific sizes are provided to accommodate different storage needs:
- Compact: 75 x 75 x 80 mm
- Small: 80 x 80 x 80 mm
- Medium: 100 x 100 x 120 mm
- Large: 120 x 120 x 160 mm
- Tall Slim: 80 x 80 x 180 mm
- Tall XL: 120 x 120 x 180 mm
Printing
- Material: PLA.
- Layer Height: 0.24mm.
- Wall Count: 2 walls.
- Infill: 5%.
- Magnet Requirements: 12mm (Diameter) x 3mm (Height).
- Print Orientation: Vertical (Upright).
- Supports: Minimal organic/tree supports are required only for the magnet hole geometry.
- Adhesion: An outer brim is recommended to ensure stability during the upright print process.
- Customization: Color slices can be added to the print as per individual preference.
Assembly & Magnet Configuration
To maximize holding force and prevent the bin from shifting, the magnets must be installed in a checkerboard (alternating) polarity matrix.
- Preparation: Ensure the nine circular pockets are free of support material or debris.
- Polarity Matrix: Mount the magnets in an N-S-N / S-N-S / N-S-N pattern. Alternating the North and South poles in this 3x3 grid concentrates the magnetic flux and significantly increases the effective pull strength compared to a uniform polarity layout.
- Installation: The pockets are sized for a tight fit. A drop of cyanoacrylate (superglue) is recommended for permanent retention in high-use environments.
- Deployment: Place the bin on a flat, ferrous surface. The ribbed backplate must make direct contact with the surface to engage the anti-slide feature.
