April Fools Interlocking Cube Puzzle

This 3D-printed interlocking cube puzzle appears to be a standard 5-piece burr-style assembly. The pieces slide together to form a perfect cube, each featuring stepped and L-shaped geometry that locks into place when assembled correctly.

However, this design includes a hidden twist.

Along with the five functional pieces required to solve the cube, a sixth “decoy” piece is included. This extra piece is a subtly modified version of one of the original components. When swapped in, the geometry makes the puzzle impossible to fully assemble — even though it looks nearly identical to the correct piece.

How It Works

• Normal Mode: With the correct five pieces, the puzzle assembles into a complete cube.
• Prank Mode: Replace one original piece with the alternate version, and the cube can no longer be solved.
• The difference between the real and altered piece is subtle enough that most users won’t immediately notice the swap.

When someone struggles and asks for help, the creator can secretly swap the incorrect piece back to the original version and then demonstrate the solution — creating a classic April Fools-style reveal.
