Large Adjustable 3D Printed Compass (up to 80 cm diameter)

This is a large adjustable compass designed for drawing or marking perfect circles with a diameter of up to 800 mm (80 cm). It is ideal for woodworking, DIY projects, workshops, and large-scale layouts where a standard compass is too small.

The design is strong, lightweight, and optimized for easy 3D printing and assembly.

Required Hardware (not included)

You will need the following components:

• 1× nail (used as the center pivot tip)

• 1× pen, marker, or pencil

   

• 1× M5 hex bolt
• 1× washer (for M5)

• 1× M5 wing nut (hand-tightened nut with two wings)

   

• 1× M13 hex bolt
• 1× washer (for M13)

• 1× M13 wing nut (hand-tightened nut with two wings)

   

• 2× M5 bolts (used to secure the nail and the pen/pencil)

   

• Rubber insert or thin rubber piece (placed between moving parts to increase friction and stability)

Additional Materials

• Super glue (cyanoacrylate) – used to permanently connect printed parts if the design is split into multiple pieces
• Rubber insert – improves locking strength and prevents slipping during use
   

Additional Notes

• All holes were finished using a drill or a thread tap for precise dimensions and proper fit.
• Screws were not 3D printed; original metal screws were used to ensure better mechanical strength, durability, and reliability.
• This approach improves overall assembly quality and prevents damage or wear that could occur when using printed threads.

Printing

Print using default settings in Bambu Studio.

Recommended materials:

• PLA – easy and stiff (recommended)
• PETG – more durable
• ASA / ABS – high durability and temperature resistance
