Stop wasting filament and drawer space on solid baseplates.
Welcome to the ultimate, math-driven Gridfinity base generator. I built this OpenSCAD script to solve three major annoyances with standard Gridfinity bases: they take too much vertical space, they are tedious to split for large drawers, and standard dovetail connectors usually look ugly or clash due to printer tolerances.
This generator creates an ultra-efficient, 1mm low-profile lattice structure that is automatically calculated and sliced to fit your exact drawer dimensions and your printer's build volume.
✨ Key Features (The Nerd Details):
- Auto-Grid Slicing (Up to 3x3): Just enter your exact drawer inner dimensions (e.g., 450x380) and select your printer (e.g., Bambu Lab 256x256). The script calculates the exact grid pitch, adds custom outer spacers for a snug fit, and splits the model into up to 9 perfectly sized plates.
- "Seam-Safe" Invisible Dovetails: No ugly outer frames! The dovetail connectors are integrated directly into the internal 5mm grid struts.
- Deep-Anchored Pins & Anti-Shoulder-Clash: The male dovetail pins are mathematically anchored deep into the struts using boolean union logic, while a built-in seam_clearance prevents the flat faces of the struts from clashing. Your plates will slide together seamlessly.
- Elephant Foot Compensation: Small tolerances can ruin snap-fits. The script features a female_dovetail_scale parameter. If your first layer squishes too much, simply bump this value (e.g., to 1.02) to scale up the socket without changing the pin.
- 1mm Low-Profile: Maximum efficiency. Why print 5mm thick solid bases when 1mm of structural lattice holds your bins perfectly in place?
🛠️ How to use the Customizer:
- Open the MakerWorld Customizer (or use OpenSCAD locally).
- Enter your Drawer Width and Drawer Depth in mm.
- Select your Printer Model (determines max plate size).
- Set render_mode to 0 to preview the assembled setup and verify the split.
- Change render_mode to 1, 2, 3... to generate and export the individual plates for printing.
- Optional: Fine-tune the dovetail_tolerance or female_dovetail_scale if your filament behaves weirdly.
⚙️ Print Settings & Recommendations
- Material: PLA, PETG, or ABS (PLA is perfectly fine and stiff enough).
- Layer Height: 0.20mm (Standard).
- First Layer Height: 0.20mm (Crucial! The base is exactly 1.0mm thick, meaning exactly 5 layers).
- Wall Loops: 2 to 3. (More walls make the dovetails stronger).
- Infill: Doesn't matter (the model is basically all walls and solid layers anyway).
- Brim: No brim needed, unless your bed adhesion is terrible. A brim will ruin the dovetail tolerances.
- Elephant Foot Compensation: Your slicer's default is fine. If the dovetails are too tight, re-render the part with a slightly higher female_dovetail_scale in the customizer.
