Modular Filament Storage System — Installation & Product Guide
I designed this modular shelving system for makers who want a storage solution that’s fast to assemble, easy to expand, and customizable to their workspace. Every detail was created with practicality in mind—from the sturdy rack bases to the optional Benchy display mounts that let you preview filament colors at a glance. I even included a label holder system for anyone who likes a clean, organized rack with clearly marked filament types.
This setup is simple, affordable, and maker‑friendly. Most components can be 3D printed, and the rest are inexpensive hardware-store items.

3D Printed Parts
- Rack bases (recommended: PETG for strength)
- Benchy mounts (PLA works great)
- Label holders (PLA)
Everything except the screws, rods, and zip ties can be printed right at home.
Printing Guide
All components are included in a single file for convenience. I pre‑painted and tuned the supports to make removal as easy as possible—especially around the screw insert pockets on the rack bases. You will need supports there; without them, the screw holes won’t print cleanly.
The label holders also require light supports, but they pop out easily. I used normal supports for a clean finish and reliable structure. Tree supports weren’t necessary since the standard ones performed well.
Installation Instructions
1. Locate Your Studs
Choose a wall area where you want your rack. Studs are typically spaced 16 inches apart. A stud finder helps, but anchors are an option if you prefer—just remember that filament spools can get heavy.
2. Mark and Pre‑Screw
Use the included screw guide to mark your stud positions. Drive the screws into the studs until they’re almost snug against the guide. The guide matches the thickness of the recessed area on the rack base.
3. Mount the Rack Bases
Remove the screw guide and install the rack base in its place. Repeat this process across the wall to create the full support structure for your rods. I used a 4 foot level to make sure things came out square and level.
4. Insert the Wood Rods
Slide the rods into the mounted bases. Once they’re in place, your shelving system is ready for filament storage.
Benchy Display Mounts
Print as many Benchy mounts as you want and attach them to the rod using zip ties. Tighten them firmly—they’ll easily support a Benchy. Trim the zip tie and rotate the cut end downward so it doesn’t snag vacuum bags or filament packaging.
I included an extra screw hole if you prefer a more permanent attachment, but zip ties alone work well.
Label Holders
Cut a small strip of paper, write your filament type or any details you want, slide it into the holder, and place it on the rack in front of each spool. It keeps your setup clean, organized, and easy to navigate.
