Descrição
For those who actively use the Zeromouse, these cases have been designed to protect your mouse from accidental drops while giving it a clean, purposeful home on your desk.
To assemble the case, you’ll need to reuse the original foam from the mouse’s packaging. Remove the foam layers and trim them down so they fit inside the bottom half of the case. A simple and effective way to do this is to press each foam layer into the inner lip of the bottom case to mark where material needs to be removed, then cut away the excess from each corner until you achieve a snug fit.
Visually, the case blends the familiar aesthetic of rugged utility boxes with an optional clear viewing window that frames the internals like a miniature display. The result is a durable exterior with a refined, showcase-style interior.
My personal version was printed in matte black PLA, using slower outer wall speeds around the fillets for a cleaner finish. I avoided ironing on the top surface, as matte PLA tends to become glossy when ironed. If you follow a similar approach, you should achieve a consistent, subtle texture across the body of the case.
For assembly, you’ll need eight 6 × 4 mm magnets. These were chosen over the more common 6 × 3 mm magnets because the extra thickness provides noticeably stronger holding force, meaning the two halves of the case require a firm, deliberate pull to separate. This helps ensure the case is far less likely to come apart if it’s accidentally dropped. The magnets are designed to be press-fitted into their dedicated slots for a secure, seamless closure without the need for superglue/epoxy.
If you plan to print the viewing window, I strongly recommend outsourcing it to JLC3DP. They printed my window in their 8001 clear resin with an oil finish, which produced excellent clarity, flatness, and surface quality. Alternatively, if you prefer to skip the window entirely, a windowless version with the engraved detail is also included.
I highly recommend printing both halves of the case upside down no supports to achieve the best possible surface quality on the outside visible faces.
