On-Wall Cloud Light ☁️

I designed this cloud light for my son’s room. I wanted something playful and cozy, but also big enough to really fill the wall and not look like a small decoration. The final result is a cloud that’s almost 50 cm wide, and it blends beautifully into a white wall during the day while coming alive at night.

This is a long print, split into 4 plates. The cloud is essentially cut in half, and the parts need to be glued together during assembly.

Lighting & Electronics 💡⚡

I personally use WLED with a simple addressable LED strip, connected to a power supply wired into a mains line already available in the wall.
That said, there is plenty of room inside the cloud for a battery-powered setup if you prefer.

With WLED, you can create fun animations lightning, sun, ambient effects, or anything you can imagine and even connect it to Home Assistant for smart control.

The cloud has a height of 40 mm, which makes it easy to fit electronics, wiring, or a controller inside.

Materials & Print Choices 🧵🖨️

• Front face (white and black PETG):
  Prevents light from bleeding through the face and ensures the glow only comes from the sides. It also hides the seam where the model is glued together.
• Sides (translucent PETG):
  Acts as a diffuser so the light spreads softly and evenly.
• Rest of the cloud (white PETG):
  Keeps the look clean and bright.

PETG was chosen because it’s strong and heat-resistant enough to safely handle electronics inside.

Mounting & Installation 🧱🔩

• Holes are included on the base so the cloud can be mounted on the wall.
• Additional holes allow cable routing if needed.
• You can glue it directly to the wall, but keep in mind:
  • This is a large and fairly heavy cloud
  • Make sure it’s securely fixed you don’t want it to fall

I designed it so all cables can be hidden, which helps the cloud integrate nicely into the wall, especially on a white surface.

Safety & Access ⚠️🔓

I’m not an electrician, so anything you install inside is at your own risk.

The cloud is not locked:

• The face slides onto the base
• You can open it by pushing the face upward

I did this intentionally so I can easily access the electronics. In my son’s room, the cloud is mounted out of reach, but please keep this in mind if you plan to use it in a child’s space.

When I gave this to my son, he absolutely loved it. Every time someone comes into his room, he proudly shows them his cloud and that honestly makes all the time spent designing and printing it completely worth it ❤️
