Milwaukee Packout 8435 Socket Set Insert
This is a custom socket set insert designed specifically to fit the Milwaukee Packout 8435 toolbox. It keeps sockets organized, secure, and easy to access—no more rattling around or digging for the size you need. The insert features embedded magnets to help retain sockets during transport while still allowing quick one-handed removal.
Printing Notes
- Designed to be printed as (4) separate pieces + (14) plugs for covering the magnets
- Works well when printed with PETG for heat resistance if stored outside or in your vehicle
- Use PLA for support interface for easy removal
Assembly Notes
- Magnets slide into the slots where applicable and glue to the holes with the corresponding plug glued behind it
- I used 3mm stainless steel rods for attaching pieces together as well as structural support, but in hindsight it was overkill using the lengths that I did. I recommend using 50mm or so of rod in the included holes for combining pieces. Just make sure approximately equal lengths are in each side.
- Numbering for plugs are included in the last picture. Be sure to keep plug pieces in order when removing from the print bed, as the depths are different to maintain a flat bottom. Plugs are in order from left to right, top then bottom in the 3mf file.
Additional Materials
- 3mm diameter stainless steel rods. I got a 12 piece 3mm x 300mm stainless steel rod set on Amazon and cut them to size.
- 60x10x3mm bar magnets (~25 pieces).
- 40x10x3mm bar magnets (~25 pieces).
- (1) bolt and nut for aiding in removing the upper insert.
This insert was designed for my personal toolset, but it may work for others with similar socket layouts. I really just hoped this would be a good starting point or inspiration for your own project.
Feel free to remix or modify it to suit your setup. Please reach out or leave a comment if any additional information would be helpful.
