💨 Precision Air Piston Fidget
Experience the satisfying resistance of air with this fully 3D printed precision piston. Inspired by high-end machined metal fidgets (like the MetMo), this model brings that satisfying, heavy-resistance slide to your 3D printer.
This is designed for a perfect friction fit. The pin slides into the base slowly and smoothly, creating a pneumatic cushion effect. It features a custom knurled texture on the base for a premium tactile grip.
Two Versions Included
I have included two ways to enjoy this model:
- Standard Air Glide: Pure pneumatic feel. The pin slides slowly via air resistance.
- Spring Loaded: Includes a custom 3D printed spring. This adds a bounce-back effect to the piston for a different fidgeting experience.
Printing Tips for Best Results
This model relies on tight tolerances to achieve the airtight effect.
- Material: PLA Matte or Standard PLA works best (Matte hides layer lines nicely).
- Layer Height: 0.12mm or 0.16mm is highly recommended for the smoothest wall operation.
- Infill: 10% Gyroid is sufficient.
- Seam Position: Set seams to "Aligned" or "Back" to ensure the round surfaces remain smooth.
- Wall Generator: Arachne is recommended for the knurling detail.
Assembly
- Standard: simply slide the pin into the base.
- Spring Version: Drop the printed spring into the base first, then insert the pin.
- Break-in: If the fit is too tight initially, simply slide the piston in and out 5-10 times. The friction will smooth out the layer lines for a glass-smooth fit.
If you enjoy this model, please leave a generic like and a boost! It helps me create more precision designs.
