I got the Elegoo Centauri Carbon knowing the quirks it had.
One of these is the strain on both the PTFE tube and the USB cable in certain positions with the stock chain mounting.
I scoured the web for solutions and all of the good ones seem to require a riser, which i didnt want.
So i decided to design something of my own to address the strain issues without needing a riser.
This model has two versions (choose the build plate you want to print):
- Model A: has the rotatable PTFE tube guide and a cable strain relief clamp (this is the uploaded profile)
- Model B: has the rotatable PTFE tube guide only
The clamp for the cable strain relief is required only with model A, if you go for model B, omit it.
Both models have adequate air vents for any heat buildup in the toolhead crevice below.
The PTFE tube simply goes through the guide, then you can position the cover over the cable and secure it with the original chain screw.
I would suggest you remove 5 chain links as shown in my images and use a zip tie to ensure the cable and tube cant escape the chain. There is adequate room so they dont rub against the zip tie.
With this setup i have no real strain on either the PTFE tube nor the cable (which is the bigger issue). For model B just make sure you pull enough cable through the chain so it has enough space in every position and can easily bend around the PTFE tube guide without any pressure / rubbing on it.
Also note that the tube has a few supports inside designed to hold the tube during the print, those have to be snapped by a bit of force after the print (by rotating the tube guide). They should snap easily enough.
I printed my own prototypes in Fiberlogy CPE HT, to have both strength, UV and high temperature resistance (100 C). I cant include the tuned profiles for this due to MakerWorld limitations though.
I also tried printing PETG with the generic PETG profile (CRAFTRUM matte PETG) and Bambu PETG and both turned out just fine.
Avoid PLA though, print at least PETG (or idealy ABS / ASA / Nylon…) as anything with lower temperature resistance will surely deform.
