After trying out a few mounting options for the excellent Multiboard system I wanted to use the 6.25mm offset pillars due to their better stability and strength than the A/B snaps but I wanted to retain the command strip mounting and easy removal and re-install of some of the snap based options.
After a bit of experimenting I landed up putting together a command strip based 6.25mm offset pillar mount and thought I'd share for others that may find it useful.
I'm using the “Command Medium Refill Hanging Wall Adhesive Strips”, note: these are NOT the velcro based command strips but are adhesive only and are therefore quite a lot cheaper and still allow for rental friendly damage free removal. These are rated for 1.3kg / 3lbs per strip, so with 4 per tile these should be able to hold up around 5kgs. I've tested this on my painted plasterboard walls and it seem to hold up fine, but obviously do your own testing somewhere out of sight in case you paintwork doesn't quite manage it!
The threaded inserts are M4 x 4mm and are inserted with a press to keep things aligned, the raised notches on the pillars both help align with the tile points and provide a positioning point for the inserts, for the screws I've used countersunk M4 x 10mm.
I've also included a positioning template for using the common mounting points between the 8x8 multiboard tiles and plates to allow for easy swapping as needed and accurate alignment across a large board. After positioning and levelling the 1st the remaining positions can be extended from those 1st positions keeping that alignment throughout.
These mount positions work well for bordered tiles but less so for grid based tiles, for those you may prefer to use the recommended corner mounting positions, I may put together a template for that in future if I have a need, if anyone wants it sooner let me know. Similarly if someone want the deeper offsets I'm happy to put something together.
