I wanted dice that matched the feel of the Lux Backgammon Kit: clean edges, recessed pips, and proportions that sit just right on the points without feeling toy-like or oversized.

These dice are sized specifically to fit the Lux Kit board frame and wells, with recessed pips and a carefully engineered bottom face so they print cleanly face-down on a flat build plate.

The trickiest part of printing dice flat is the face that touches the plate – recessed pips can sag or bulge if they’re just bridged. To solve this, I used a stepped interior design behind the pips, so the bridging is short and well-supported. That helps keep the pips sharp instead of drooping.

I also tuned for elephant’s foot, but depending on your filament and printer, you may want to run a quick test and adjust your first-layer / horizontal expansion settings if you want ultra-crisp edges.

The dice are solid:
– they print in one piece
– the pips are colored using Bambu Studio’s painting tools (multi-color / AMS) or can be hand-painted after printing.

Design Notes

• Recessed pips with stepped backing to minimize sagging on the face printed against the plate.
• Dimensions tuned to feel substantial in the hand while still fitting comfortably on a backgammon point.
• Works well in matte PLA, silk, or metallic/filled filaments. If you want extra heft, try brass-filled PLA for the whole die.

• Pips are designed for simple color separation in Bambu Studio (painted pips) but also take acrylic paint nicely if you prefer to hand-fill them.

   

Slow, steady print settings are intentional here – small parts, big payoff in feel.
