Cute Flexy Octopus Keychain – Print-in-Place V2 – THICKER LINKS for Extra-Robust Tentacles

Some users with open-frame printers or older PEI sheets, have reported that the model can detach from the bed during printing. 
 

If the bed adhesion issue happens to you, to prevent detachment, enable the "brim" option in your slicer – it adds a thin edge around the model that improves adhesion and reduces the chance of lifting, and you peel it off after the print. You’ll find the option in the print settings, Others → Brim Type → Select: Outer Brim Only 

A small, cute, and flexible octopus that prints easily in 1.5h completely (1h23min body + 13min eyes). Perfect as a keychain, fidget, or gift.

This flexy octopus is designed as a multi-part print, so it can be printed even without an AMS since the eyes are printed separately and require only a single color change which can be done with the pause and the manual change of the filament for those who don't have the AMS - i will mention the layers where to set pause below.

The finished model can be combined with a standard keychain.

The body is also designed for two-color printing to give it a more playful and eye-catching look. If you keep my preset settings (0.16 mm layer height), the color swap for the body will occur at layer 20 (3.24 mm).  I usually use a lighter color for the bottom and a darker color for the top, but you’re free to use any color combination you like. 

⚠️ Important – Please Read Before Printing

Before starting the print, thoroughly clean the build plate with warm water and dish soap to remove grease, oils, and residue from previous prints. 

Small flexy toys contain many tiny parts, and proper bed adhesion is essential to ensure everything sticks correctly.

I’ve printed around 20 pieces of this model using only a clean build plate, no glue, no hairspray, no adhesion aids. The print profile is carefully fine-tuned so everything prints reliably.

Assembly

The eyes include a small alignment notch on both the body and eye parts. After printing, glue the eyes to the body using a small amount of CA glue (super glue).

• PLA: CA glue works perfectly
• PETG: CA glue bonds poorly — use resin-based or two-component glue

PLA is strong enough; PLA Silk is not, so please do not use PLA Silk, as the tentacle links could fail.
It can survive rough play, but honestly, when used as a keychain it’s more suitable for being hooked onto a kid’s bag or used as a decoration. It will not survive pockets or high forces like a regular keychain would. It is a toy first and foremost

Recommended Print Profile

I strongly recommend using my print profile, as all settings are precisely tuned and tested with more than 10 different filament colors. Because of the many small parts, the profile is optimized to ensure clean, consistent results.

If you prefer to use a different slicer, use the following settings:

Layer height: 0.16 mm
Seam position: Aligned
Wall generator: Classic

Walls: 2
Infill: 15%
Infill pattern: Cubic

Speeds

• Outer wall: 150 mm/s
• Inner wall: 150 mm/s
• Sparse infill: 250 mm/s
• Top surface: 150 mm/s

Brim: None
Supports: None

If you keep my preset settings (0.16 mm layer height), the color swap for the body will occur at layer 20 (3.24 mm) , or if you dont have AMS set up the pause at this layer.

 For the eyes set the pause at layer 35 in slicer (with layer height being 0.16mm) and then do the manual filament swap. Start with white and proceed to change the filament to black when the printer does the pause.
