I kept the edge geometry as a way of showing respect to the original model. Since I use SUNLU’s AMS heater, I felt that drying with silica gel was unnecessary for me. For that reason, I remixed the original model into a version that simply holds a 500 g weight.

The 500 g weight is a common item available on Amazon. I made modifications assuming a weight with an outer diameter of 37.8 mm and a height of 62 mm. I also added embossed text on both ends of the edge to indicate the weight and the opening/closing rotation direction.

As mentioned earlier, I use a heater, so this profile is printed in ABS. If you are not using a heater, PLA should be more than sufficient. If you prefer a single‑color print and want to keep things simple, you can also choose not to print the text portions. The embossing depth is set to 1 mm.

When filament runs low, the spool can sometimes jump inside the AMS. I have tried many approaches proposed by earlier creators. They were all elegant and well‑thought‑out designs, but in terms of ease of spool replacement, I personally feel that adding weight inside the spool is the best solution.
