This is an easy to print, easy to assemble and easy to mount height measuring device. Of course, being limited by the print bed size, it can only measure up to about 22cm / 8". But, this is generally not a problem, just measure up a height from the floor to the +- 10cm desired height, and mount it there.

Variants

There are two variants here, one with a split frame, and one with the frame in one piece. You need the correct slider for each of these models, since they are slightly different. The split version needs to be glued together, whereas the non-split version comes as one piece. Which one you want to print is up to you, but the split version prints a lot faster and has much fewer filament changes. The non-split version takes twice as long to print, but doesn't require any glue.

Printing

You can obviously print this in multi color. The .3mf comes defined with 4 colors, but you can adjust as needed. The non-split version should be obvious how to print, the .3mf has a brim on the frame to assure a perfectly flat print.

If you are creating your own print profile, make sure you import the right .step files for the split / non-split versions, and when asked to import as one multi-color part, say “Yes”.

Assembly

For the split version only: Using super glue, or even better, something like Plastruct Plastic Weld (which is amazing!), glue the two halfs together. Make sure they are leveled, but don't glue them to your kitchen table please!

The slider should slide on to each end, make sure the flat side of the slider faces down. It may be a little tight to get it on the frame at first, but once on it should slide fairly easily. It is intentionally tight here to make sure the slider doesn't move around too easily by gravity.

Using

Once assembled, just measure up an appropriate height from the floor to the bottom of the frame. If you only care about either metric or imperial, just pick whatever. Otherwise, pick something where inches and centimeters meat up reasonably well, such as 170cm / 68". At that height, you can measure from 170 - ~190cm with ease.
