Easy View Master Spool
Works with Bambu, Polymaker, Sunlu, Esun, Elegoo, and AnyCubic filament refills.
This is a remix of the Polymaker Refill Master Spool. It has two different ways to hold the loose end of the filament. The first is the oval holes along the top edge. The holes are large enough and spaced enough that it does not kink the filament like other spools. The other is a clever little slot along the top edge of the spool that you simply press the filament into for a secure hold. It is a very sturdy well designed spool.
Although there was some things that I like in a spool that was just not part of the creators design. I have an A1 with a top mounted AMS. I wanted to be sure that I could see how much filament was left on the spool even if it was mounted on the back side of the AMS. That is why I added a couple of additional large slots to allow for easy viewing of the remaining filament. Now no matter where the spool is in its rotation there is always at least one slot where it is possible to see the remaining filament.
I also noticed when printing the original spool, that it took considerably longer to print compared to other spools I have printed in the past. I attributed this to the massive numbers of small holes and removed enough to allow for easier printing while still maintaining enough for good air flow to promote adequate and efficient drying of the loaded filament when placed in a drier. I also created my own print profile. Between the changes I made and my print profile this version of the spool (both halves) takes about 2 hours (1h 56m) less time to print using Bambu PETG HF (with the stock Bambu filament profile) compared to the original design.
Lastly, I changed the depth of the polymaker branding along the top edge. This gives the branding a more subtle appearance, and more reliability when printing. When you download this project there will be 4 plates. Side A and Side B for single color printing. And Side A and Side B for painted. The reason there is separate plates for painted and non painted is, because for the painted I dropped the polymaker branding right down to the build plate so it prints the branding on the first layer and comes out nice and crisp. This also allows you to print a spool with no polymaker branding by simply removing the paint or painting the branding logo the same color as the base of the spool.
