Cobra Hexframe

Cobra Hexframe is my largest and most ambitious challenge project so far: a mechanically inspired cobra designed as an open-frame PC case that stands completely on its own. The design is intentionally angular and technical, aiming to resemble a segmented, mechanical snake rather than a smooth organic form.

Important note:
During the upload process, I unfortunately ran into an issue where MakerWorld did not properly verify the individual plates, which caused problems during uploading. Because of this, only one build plate containing the head is included as a separate file. The complete snake is included in the Downloads, which contains the full model.

 

The total length of the snake is approximately 5 meters. Due to its raised and curved body, the assembled structure reaches a height of around 1 meter, with a footprint of roughly 50 cm in width and 70 cm in depth. This makes Cobra Hexframe a very large and heavy build, intended only for users with plenty of available space.

This project was created for a challenge featuring TRYX water cooling and was designed from the start as a visual showcase, not a traditional enclosed PC case. The cobra stands securely on three ground contact points arranged in a triangular layout, providing natural stability. All parts are glued together. If slight tension occurs during assembly, small spacers or coasters can temporarily be placed underneath — my own build stands directly on the floor, as shown in the images.

I deliberately chose not to place all PC components inside the snake, as it negatively impacted the visual appearance. Instead, the concept uses external hardware housing for the power supply and storage, for example a unit like the RACK-406N-USB3. This enclosure can be placed on a desk or the floor, with the cobra positioned above or next to it. Cables are routed through the openings on the left and right sides of the snake and guided downward at the rear, ideally secured with cable ties.

The system is not powered on in the images, as I did not have the required extra-long cables at the time. However, the overall concept and intended setup should still be clearly visible. I also removed my graphics card for the photos since it does not visually match the build, but it can of course be mounted directly to the motherboard without issue.
