📐 The Stroller STEM Cubes: A Modular, Universal Busy Board System

Project Overview and Design Mandate

The Stroller STEM Cubes project addresses a common real-world challenge: keeping young children constructively occupied during extended periods in a stroller. This design is engineered as a modular, expandable, and universally compatible accessory, offering a genuine developmental and entertainment solution for parents and children.

The primary design goal was to create a durable, easily 3D-printable system that integrates STEM principles into a fun, tactile package, with the core mechanism supporting future expansion.

Core Engineering and Functionality

1. Modular "Click-and-Play" System:
   • The central innovation is the secure, yet user-friendly, interlocking mechanism. Each cube is designed to click firmly into the mounting rail, providing a satisfying confirmation of engagement.
   • This dual-functionality allows children to interact with the cubes while they are securely mounted, or to easily remove and re-insert them, promoting fine motor skills and providing variety in play.
2. Universal Attachment System:
   • The mounting rail incorporates a structural recess and aperture designed to accommodate a standard velcro strap, cord, or zip tie.
   • This simple mounting method ensures the accessory can be securely and optimally positioned on any stroller handlebar, bumper bar, or bassinet rail, independent of make or model.
3. STEM Focus:
   • The initial three cubes—Tactile, Geometric, and Visual/Letter—are specifically calibrated to target foundational skills in sensory processing, spatial reasoning, and basic recognition, supporting early childhood education principles.

• Real-World Testing: The system has been tested in the wild, demonstrating a measurable increase in engaged play during stroller time. The robust design handles the stresses of daily child interaction.

Future development

As this design gains popularity I will be releasing additional STEM cubes which can be swaped into the same base. Your child will never get bored with the ability to add new cubes any time.

Please use the provided print profile. Note that the print profile has been heavily optimized with custom and adaptive layer heights to ensure fast printing while maintaining high quality for small details.

The provided print profile includes layer based color changes for each cube, however the entire set can also be printed without AMS in single color or by setting print pauses during the color changes. Note each cube only as one color change.
