Portable Vacuum Cleaner for 3D Printer Maintenance
What is it?
A compact, handheld vacuum cleaner designed primarily for cleaning 3D printers, but fully suitable for other light-duty workshop or household applications. It features a detachable dust container, an internal conical filter, and several accessories for reaching confined areas inside enclosed printers.

Advantages / Benefits
- Efficient removal of dust, debris and filament particles from critical and difficult printer areas.
- Quick-release dust container for clean and easy emptying, twist movement.
- Built-in anti-backflow system.
- Set of narrow, flexible and precision nozzles for hard-to-reach zones.
- Rechargeable battery with USB-C charging port integrated into the handle.
How to use it?
- Assemble the dust container and any required accessories.
- Press and hold the button on the handle for ~2 seconds to turn the vacuum on or off.
- Press briefly while running to change speed (3 speeds available).
- Do not obstruct the rear airflow opening during use, as it will drastically reduce suction.
- To empty the dust container, twist and detach the waste section before cleaning it.
Compatibility
- Works with any open or enclosed 3D printer environment, and more…
- Compatible with the full accessory set

Recommended materials
- Outer housing: PLA or PETG (PETG recommended for higher temperature resistance).
- Seals: Soft TPU (ideally Shore 85 or lower for optimal sealing).
- Dust container (translucent): PETG or translucent PLA to allow visual inspection.
Print recommendations
- All parameters are already on the print profile (3MF), but there are some considerations to bear in mind:
- TPU and translucent PETG parts should be printed one at a time (not in batch mode) to reduce stringing.
- Both TPU and PETG must be fully dried, even if brand new, to ensure clean and accurate surface quality.

Assembly

Tools required
- Allen key for M2.5 screws (Size: H1.5)
- CA glue or epoxy for magnet installation
- Tweezers and a small screwdriver for positioning the torsion spring and pin
Fasteners
- BHCS M2.5×14 or M2.5×12 for closing the outer shell.
- Only the PCB requires internal fastening using screws supplied with the Base Kit.
Magnets
- Three 20×10×3 mm rectangular neodymium magnets secure the dust container.
- Glue them with CA or epoxy.
Anti-backflow valve (critical step)
- Before gluing the dust container’s inlet nozzle, install the torsion spring and cylindrical pin that form the valve.
- Ensure free movement: the valve must open when suction is active and close when the vacuum is off.
- Only then glue the inlet nozzle.
Filter and Electronics and power
- Insert the conical filter inside the dust container, ensuring proper positioning so that debris cannot reach the motor.
- The USB-C charging port is located in the handle.
Operation
- On/Off: press and hold the handle button for ~2 seconds.
Speed change: short press while running (3 speeds).
Do not operate the motor without the filter installed.
Safety notes
- Operate only with the dust container correctly assembled.
- Avoid vacuuming liquids, stringy material, loose wires, or sharp objects.
- Keep the rear exhaust opening unobstructed at all times.
- Keep hands, cables and small objects away from the intake while powered on.
Suggested Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Included on the HandHeld Vacuum Cleaner Kit
- Motor
- Conical filter (printed or commercial)
- On-Off PCB Switch
- Main Board
- Rechargeable battery (USB-C compatible)
- Torsion spring
- Dowel Pin Diameter 2x14mm - A M2 size bolt will work too.
- 6 × neodymium magnets 20×10×3 mm (the ones that are included in the kit are not strong enough for this application)
- 10x BHCS M2.5×14 / M2.5×12 screws
Additional print behavior notes
- TPU and translucent PETG must be printed one-by-one to avoid stringing, this is already configured on the printer profile.
- Always dry these filaments before use.
- Print only the accessories you plan to use: the included set covers the most common needs.
Design Philosophy & Development
This project was developed with a focus on practical maintenance for 3D printers: easy access, effective dust management, and motor safety through a backflow-prevention valve and internal filtration. The modular approach ensures long-term adaptability regarding future accessories.
Future Vision & Community
- Potential for larger dust container
- Community feedback is welcome, especially regarding valve performance and electronic integration.
- Remixes and contributions are encouraged.
