The Magic Mouse Dock V3 is here!
Following feedback from V1 and V2, I have made several improvements to the Magic Mouse dock. This version prints in four parts, reducing material waste from printing support structures and resulting in a cleaner print. The incorporation of internal cable routing for a more secure mounting point and to facilitate easier removal, and a subtle tab at the rear to hold the dock in place during Magic Mouse removal. Overall, these enhancements have resulted in a more aesthetically pleasing Magic Mouse dock.
The final enhancement is the use of a standardised cable. Previous designs relied on Apple’s proprietary USB to Lightning cables, which presented various issues due to the many size and shape variations at the Lightning end of the cable. For the V3, I designed it to securely fit a Lightning to USB-A cable manufactured by Mcdodo. This is a reasonably priced cable available from various online resellers. I purchased this cable from Ink Station - Braided Lightning to USB-A, who also sell it as a Lightning to USB-C cable.
One tool I would highly recommend in order to install the Threaded Brass Heat-insert Nuts is the 100W USB-C Smart Soldering Iron Kit sold through the BambuLab online store. This kit comes with the required parts to facilitate the installation of the Heat-Insert Nuts and is easy to setup and use.
I will endeavour to upload an assembly guide in the near future to assist.
