Want to limit the light spill of the Elgato Key Light onto the back wall of your office/studio?
I designed
- A Frame that can be mounted to the ¼" mounts - both for horizontally and vertically mounted lights!
- Stackable Grid Inserts for the desired light emission angle (see below)
The frame is securely mounted to the Elgato Key Light and allows the grid inserts to be quickly and easily swapped out.
The grid depth can be modified simply by adding/removing elements from the stack.
Watch the short video above for details!
The project file (ChrisP_Elgato_Keylight_Grid_v4_BambuStudio.3mf for Bambu Studio) includes all settings and modifiers for perfect prints on BambuLab printers like the X1C!
Printing the frame
- Print the 2 parts for the frame and slide them together. No supports, rafts or brims and no glue required!
- Print 2 mounting brackets and click them into the frame
- Mount the frame to the Elgato Key Light with 2 short ¼ inch screws. If you don't have suitable screws,
- you can get the ¼" Quick Release Plate Nuts from the Maker's Supply here on MakerWorld
- or you can also try to 3D print the ones I included in the project file
Printing the grid
Print as many stackable grid pieces as you need. You can combine any of the grid pieces, for maximum flexibility you can only print 10mm grids and then stack those. But I also made 20mm and 30mm pieces since you probably want at least that depth as a start and stack more elements on top to get the desired directional lighting effect. The grid pieces are held in place inside the frame simply by tension.
⭐ For larger print beds I also included STLs of the the full frame and full grids!
Grid depth vs light emission angle (calculated):
- 30mm ~85°
- 40mm ~68°
- 50mm ~57°
- 60mm ~48°

Looking forward to your makes and before/after pictures of your studio setup!
Note: The grid reduces the overall light output of the Key Light slightly - that's just how physics works ;) Deeper grid = more reduction, you can see that effect in the YouTube video. You can counteract that by turning up the ligth's brightness and/or adjusting the exposure of your camera.
