Gridfinity Box For Stuff - 20 BIN Ver3.1 — STL Grátis

Description:

Ever needed to get your stuff together, y'know, get it all together and put it in a box, all your stuff, so it's all together? Well I did, so I made this thing. It's a Box For Stuff, which will hold twenty 1x1 Gridfinity bins (all together). The cases are now available in 6U, 9U, 12U and 15U (tall) sizes. I printed a 6U and 9U case as my prototypes, but the 12U and 15U are provided for folks who need deeper cases. If using the deeper 12U or 15U cases, it may be difficult to get bins out if they are stacked (6U+9U bins in a 15U case for example), so consider using deep bins if using those sizes.

The files here have been updated to Version 3.0 with the following improvements:

Updated gasket design
Fully redesigned to be slimmer and use less material than the prior version.
Available in 6U, 9U,12U and 15U deep sizes
Updated modular latches

This case requires the following hardware:

(2) M3 x 12mm SHCS (these hold the latch “cleats” to the top of the case)
(2) M3 x 8mm SHCS (or FHCS) (these hold the latch “cleats” to the base of the case)
(4) M3 x 20mm SHCS (two of these are for the handle and the others are for the latches)
(4) M3 x 25mm SHCS (these are used for the hinges) - may be substituted with (2) M3x50mm SHCS
(2) M3 x 30mm SHCS (these are used for the latches)
(80) 6x2mm Cylinder Magnets - OPTIONAL (I used 6x3mm, which seem to work OK too)

(SHCS = Socket Head Cap Screws)

There are several ways you can build one of these cases, which are explained below, using the profile plates:

If you want to build a basic case, without a gasket, you can print plate 1 (the lid), and one of the bases circled in green (plates 09-12).
To build a case with a gasket, print plate 1 (the lid), and one of the bases circled in blue (plates 05-08), and the TPU gasket (plate 03).
For all cases, you will need to print a latch and handle (plate 02), and a label (plate 04). There are two latch options, with the “short” latch being tighter than the “regular latch”. I've used both, so this is up to your preference. There are also several label options, including two blank labels which you can add test to using the slicer tools, and a 2 part P-Touch label version, which uses 12mm Brother P-Touch labels.

Assembly:

Step 1: Assemble the hinges

The hinges require the following parts:

(4) M3 x 25mm SHCS (or 2 M3x50mm SHCS for the hinges)

A long ball end Allen key or long H2.5 driver bit will be very helpful for assembling the hinges (I use a 100mm H2.5 bit with a cordless screwdriver). If using a power screwdriver, go slow, otherwise the friction of the screw going into the plastic could cause the screw to melt the plastic and veer off course. If you have M3x50mm screws, you can use a shorter bit and just drive the screws in from the outside in one pass per side, which is bit easier.

Step 2: Install the handle

The handle requires the following parts:

(2) M3 x 20mm SHCS

The case handle installs on the bottom shell (base) of the case with two M3x20mm SHCS screws.

Step 3: Assemble the latches

The latches require the following parts:

(2) M3 x 20mm SHCS
(2) M3 x 30mm SHCS
(2) M3 x 8mm SHCS (or FHCS)
(2) M3 x 12mm SHCS

The images below show the steps to install the latch inserts, and assemble the latches. They show a slightly different case design (for Bambu printer spare parts), but the latches are nearly identical to this Gridfinity case. If the inserts are too tight, give them a light sanding, so they slide into the dovetail grooves in the case shells.

I don't expect this to be a problem, but if you find the latches are too tight, and the case will not close without forcing them, please stop, and either try the “REG” latches from plate 02, or post a comment and I will try to assist. If you force a latch closed, which is extremely tight, you risk cracking something due to the stress that will place on the hinges and latch components.

If you find the latches are too loose, you can try the shorter laches on plate 02 of the profile. Otherwise I recommend using the “Reg” (regular) latches on plate 02, which should work.

Step 4: Install the optional gasket

I did not add any silicone sealer to my case, but adding a bit into the gasket groove prior to installation of the gasket may help with sealing. The case however is not going to be water tight regardless (there are too many variables which affect water tightness).

To install the TPU gasket, first set the gasket in place and verify the orientation (it has a long and short side). Then, using a blunt tool (such as the end of a sharpie pen), press the gasket in place at the center of each side. Once the gasket is set in place and pressed down at the center of each side (to hold it in place), press the gasket in place at the corners, working toward the center of each side. When the corners are in place, run the tool along the gasket all the way around, to make sure it is fully seated. The image below shows a close up of the gasket, installed in one corner of the case.

Step 5: Install the case label

The outside case label is just pressed into place. Take note of the orientation though, so it does not appear upside down when closed. The orientation shown in the image below is correct:

There is an alternate case label on plate 2, which allows for using Brother P-Touch 12mm labels, otherwise text can be inlayed on the labels in the slicer.
