This spool holder has been designed from scratch to be compact, strong, and material-efficient, making it printable even on a 180×180 mm build plate.

Easy Assembly

This design uses standard broom handles as spool rods — cheap, easy to find, and perfectly sized (hole diameter: 22 mm).
You can assemble everything in just a few minutes.

Reinforced Mount System

To handle over 17 kg of load and ensure compatibility with different screw types, I integrated reinforcement plates into the design.

Custom screw plates

These plates can be modified or replaced without reprinting the entire model, preventing the screws from splitting the layers and destroying the part.

Disclaimer

• Use a good-quality broomstick, preferably metal.
• Use washers with the screws.
• Mount into studs, not just drywall.
• Latex or oil-based paints will eventually adhere completely to PLA/PETG. Removing the print may take a chunk of wall or drywall with it.
• Never place heavy filament above breakable objects or people.

Final Thoughts

I’ve tested this model extensively, and it has never failed.
The only weak point is that wooden broomstick tend to bend under heavy load, but this can be easily solved by using metal broomstick instead.
