ToolBook EDC

Every idea starts with a line.

The ToolBook EDC is a compact, modular notebook designed for those who enjoy creating, taking notes, or planning projects with a practical touch.
It combines a functional notebook with an integrated trapezoidal cutting blade and a magnetic compartment for storing small useful items.

It is fully print-in-place, including functional hinges and rigid covers, which are manufactured as a single piece without additional assembly.
Only three elements are printed separately: the ruler, the multi-purpose drawer, and the trapezoidal blade holder. These snap into place with small magnets, ensuring a clean, modular, and durable assembly.

Inside, the ToolBook EDC can hold DIN A4 sheets folded in half (A5 format).
Important: the sheets must be folded in half and trimmed to fit correctly in the clip-style system, allowing pages to be easily added, removed, or reorganized.
It also includes a slot for a pen or pencil, always within easy reach for quick notes.

The back cover integrates a set of magnetic utilities:

  • A multi-purpose drawer for microSD cards, SIM cards, USB drives, safety pins, small post-its, and other everyday items.
This drawer magnetically snaps into place and can be easily removed when needed.
  • A removable magnetic ruler, ideal for quick measurements or serving as a cutting guide.
  • And a trapezoidal cutting blade with its dedicated magnetic holder, always ready but securely stored.

The system is designed to offer maximum functionality without complications, while keeping the minimalist and practical philosophy that defines the EDC series.

Required materials

  • 8 magnets (5×2 mm) for the ruler, drawer, and cover closure system.
  • 1 magnet (10×2 mm) for securing the trapezoidal cutting blade.
  • 1 thin elastic band, preferably a hair tie. A recycled folder band or any similar thin elastic can also be used.
  • 1 trapezoidal cutting blade, recommended Stanley model 1992, although the holder can fit other similar trapezoidal blades.

Important:

The magnet slots are designed with a precise fit, so glue should not be necessary. Each user may choose to use adhesive if desired, but in testing no glue has been required.

Checking the polarity of the magnets before installation is essential. Since the slots are very tight, if the magnets are placed with reversed polarity they will repel each other, and it can be very difficult to remove them afterward.

The magnets in the ruler connect with the magnets in the bottom cover through the notebook, so it is essential to verify their correct position before installing them.

Trapezoidal blade assembly

The blade is installed by sliding one part of the handle over the other until the end of the track, where a “click” should be heard, indicating the blade is firmly secured in its holder.
The initial fit may be tight; this is intentional to ensure a secure hold that prevents the blade from accidentally falling out, and it loosens slightly after inserting and removing it several times.
