PERCH - Bird Feeder with Built-in Camera Mount

Designed in Fusion 360, printed in PETG, and mounted with a wireless camera to (hopefully) catch some feathered visitors. Let’s see who shows up first. 🐦

About PERCH

PERCH is a 3D-printed bird feeder designed for makers and birdwatchers alike. It features a built-in camera mount so you can capture close-up footage of your feathered guests - perfect for pairing with a Blink Outdoor Camera, or use the plain front panel if you’d prefer it camera-free.

PERCH is available in two mounting options:

Pole mount

The pole mount fits a 25 mm wooden dowel, which can be placed directly into the ground. Print the pole-mount version of the body along with the pole connector, which attaches to the bottom using four nuts and screws:

Optionally, add the counterweight base (printable in basic PLA), which can be filled with sand or stones and placed in a garden pot for added stability.

Wall mount

The wall mount version is ideal for fences, sheds, or garden walls. Print the wall-mount base along with the rear spacer that clips onto the back of the feeder body. Fix the body securely using appropriate wall fixings for your surface.

Printing PERCH

The .3mf file includes suggested print settings for each part. Most components print well with standard settings at 0.16 mm layer height.

I’ve tweaked a few elements for function and finish - for example, the front panel uses a honeycomb infill for a nicer aesthetic, and the pole mount connector has increased infill for added strength.

• Printer size: Fits on smaller 3D printers (e.g. Bambu Lab A1 Mini).
• Material: PETG filament recommended - I used Bambu Labs PETG HF and Translucent for outdoor durability.
• Supports: Minimal supports required (only for the two roof parts).
• Layer height: 0.16 mm.
• Front: Printed in Translucent PETG so the seed level can be seen without removing the roof.
• Counterweight: Can be printed in cheaper PLA, as it will sit in soil.

Camera Compatibility

Designed around the Blink Outdoor Camera (V3), and also compatible with the V4 (same dimensions).
Two front panel options are included:

• With camera mount.
• Plain (no camera).
