I needed an enclosure for my DVD Drive that allowed me to include an IDE to USB adapter.
I wasn't able to find one, so decided to design one with OpenSCAD instead.
This is parametric, and I've included the original *.scad file so you can adjust to your requirements, for example to make the enclosure longer, or taller/shorter based on your needs.
This prints in 3 parts:
- Drive Tray
- Outer Shell
- TPU Feet

If you don't want to print the feet in TPU, then you can use a shorter screw (i.e M3 x 10mm) and use self-adhesive feet instead.
Assembly Instructions
- Use a soldering iron (I set mine to 200C) to insert 4 x M3 Heat Set Inserts into the bottom (the flat side) of the tray.
- Cut the screws off the sides of the Micro B connector as they aren't needed. This can be done with a craft knife
- Screw the USB Panel Mount and DC jack to the tray
- Insert your IDE and Molex extension cables into your adapter
- Place your adapter as pictured, and plug in the power and USB cables
- NOTE: CHECK THE POWER SWITCH ON THE ADAPTER IS SET TO “ON”
- Slide your drive into the front of the tray
- Attach the IDE and Power Connectors
- Secure the drive to the tray with 4 (or 8) M3 x 6mm screws
- It's a good idea to test your drive/adapter at this point
- Slide the outer shell over the tray
- Insert the M3 x 20mm screws through the TPU feet, and then screw them into the tray, through the outer shell
