The Nike of Samotrache

This model of the Nike of Samothrace is an optimized 3D scan, prepared specifically for reliable printing on enclosed 3D printers.
The scan was created from a figurine using the Raptor Pro 3D scanner. In the final processing stage, the detailing was set to 0.2 millimeters (while the original scan was captured at 0.1 mm resolution).

About the Nike of Samothrace:
The Nike of Samothrace, also known as the Winged Victory of Samothrace, is a famous ancient Greek sculpture dating back to around 200 BCE. It represents the goddess Nike, the personification of victory, standing on the prow of a ship with her wings spread wide. The statue was discovered on the Greek island of Samothrace in 1863 and is considered one of the masterpieces of Hellenistic art. Today, it can be admired at the Louvre Museum in Paris, where it is displayed at the top of the grand staircase.

Printing:
Many of the Nike of Samothrace scans circulating online are not very easy to print, since they have not been optimized for 3D printing. With this model, however, I took the time to make those optimizations.

Some of the overhanging parts were slightly flattened in a minimal way, making it easier for slicing software to place supports. This adjustment was done directly in the 3D model itself, not in the slicer. As a result, even with automatically generated supports, this model can still be printed successfully.

For my own printing profile, I deliberately chose PETG as the material. I printed it with 5 wall layers and 25% infill, giving the figurine real strength and weight, so it doesn’t tip over easily.

It may look as if the foot is slightly tilted, but this is also true in the original statue—so it is exactly as it should be.
