Why another display stand?
I went looking for a display stand for my rock collection and found the existing models lacking. I believe this model is an improvement in several key areas:
- Adjustable back support allows accommodates oddly shaped items (such as rocks) as well as flat items (such as pictures)
- Two pronged support rod allows for each prong to be sized individually to properly support very uneven shapes
- Set the RodProngSpread = 0 to have a single prong
- Adjustable back support allows for customizing the angle at which the item is displayed without having to reprint the stand
- Additional length of stand allows supporting top-heavy items without fear of tipping over
- Fully parameterized model allows you to get the perfect fit for your items
I have included 3 basic stands in the print profile: small, medium, and large - however the best fit will come from customization.
I have also included several lengths of backing rods. For items with a uniform back, I tend to print a set and try different sizes and slots to come up with an appropriate angle for the item being displayed.
Customization Parameter Notes:
- The 3 basic parameters that are typically adjusted are:
- LegLength - Distance from front of item to back of item.
- LegSpread - Distance between the two legs at the front of the item.
- RodLength - Length of the back support rod.
- The advanced parameters all start with a ‘z’ and can be used to fully tailor the fit of the stand to more complex shapes
- See the picture for how the various parameters apply to the model.
- z_BaseLength - Adjusting the size of the base length will dictate how many adjustment slots are available. 8-14mm has 3 slots. 15+mm has 6 slots. A value of 24+ will result in a thicker back support rod (better for large/heavy objects).
- z_BaseWidth - Along with determining the width of the base, this also will determine the width of the back support rod.
- z_RodProngSpread - Defining a value greater than 0 will cause the rod to split. To get wider prongs, you will need to increase the z_BaseWidth.
- z_RodProngOffset - Adjust this if you have a RodProngSpread and you need one prong to be longer / shorter than the other.
