VERSION 2 (10 Feb 2026)
It's shaped like a tick, because it's the right way to crack that ring-pull. The Can Cracker is a simple lever to break the seal on ring-pull cans. It solves the problem of getting your fingers under the ring-pull by scooping it up and then giving you additional leverage for the opening. Version 2 added a side-hook to help peel back the lid as shown … surprisingly effective, a testament to simple design.

Unlike other systems the Can Cracker doesn't require high levels of dexterity to engage the ring-pull, being self stabilized against the can lid.
No more hurting fingers, broken fingernails or wet sticky soda-fingers - fsssst!

Design considerations
- The mouth - The mouth of the tool is wide enough to fit most can ring-pulls. It has a tapered lower leading edge and wedge shape to scoop-up and catch the ring-pull.
- Wedge - There is an internal ramp increases tension and will hold the tool in place so you can let go once the ring-pull has been fully inserted and it will remain in place. The wedge also adds thickness and so mechanical strength to prevent the bottom cracking while levering the ring-pull.
- The foot - The foot of the tool is short enough to fit on small cans but wide enough to maintain stability when you push down and slide it forward.
- The handle - Is shaped to fit comfortably in the hand and give you more than enough leverage for the most demanding cans. It also includes…
- The hook - Helps you to peel back the lid. Surprisingly excellent! The tight radius of the corner provides additional leverage at the start of the pull-back.
Print considerations
PLA is a good material here with high stiffness and good strength. The default print is 0.12 mm layer height, printed on its side to allow the wide 27 mm opening of the mouth.
Brims and bed adhesion
In the first release, a brim was enabled by default because the Can Cracker prints on its side and only has a small contact patch. Without extra adhesion, there’s a higher chance of the part letting go and turning into a spaghetti failure.
In version 2, I disabled the brim by default to make post‑processing easier - no more peeling off a wide skirt of plastic. If you prefer maximum security during printing, you can still enable it manually: go to Global → Others → Bed adhesion → Brim type and choose Outer brim only. That option keeps the print firmly planted if you have adhesion concerns.

If you print with a brim you will need to deburr the edge to make it comfortable to hold again.
How to use
- Insert the ring-pull - With the foot of the tool flat on the top of the can, push it forward into the ring-pull. The angled tip will scoop up the ring-pull and slot into the mouth.
- Grip and anchor - Hold the can steady with one hand. With the other, grip the tool’s handle - designed for leverage and comfort.
- Lift with Leverage - Gently lift the handle and push forward. The tool transfers force efficiently, popping the seal without straining your fingers or breaking fingernails. Normally you would push until the ring-pull is vertical.
- Use the hook - Engage the ring-pull with the side-hook and start levering it back. Once the seal breaks, you can use the tool to start the peel back or pull the lids off.
Serve and enjoy!
