Parametric Mod Box Description
This project was born out of my frustration with repeatedly designing custom project boxes for electronics, each with removable sides and varying sizes. I knew there had to be a smarter solution. So, I created a fully parametric, 3D-printable project box with removable sides, designed to print with no supports. I included 5 premade box options in the print files incase you don't want to use the parametric fuctionality. They are desinged to use M3 flat head screws to screw the box together. By leveraging Fusion 360's parametric capabilities, you can quickly adapt the project box to suit various electronics projects, adjusting dimensions with ease and addeing new features to allow for accessories like a display, switches, sensors, etc.
What Does Parametric Mean?
In the context of this project, parametric refers to a design approach where the model is defined by adjustable parameters (such as length, width, height, or wall thickness). These parameters allow you to easily modify the box's dimensions or features without redesigning the entire model from scratch. By changing the parameter values, the model automatically updates to reflect the new specifications, making it highly flexible and efficient for customization.
Editing Parameters in Fusion 360
To edit the parameters of this project box in Autodesk Fusion 360, follow these steps:
- Open the Model: Load the project box file in Fusion 360.
- Access the Parameters Dialog:
- Go to the Modify menu in the Design workspace.
- Select Change Parameters to open the Parameters dialog box.
- View and Edit Parameters:
- In the Parameters dialog, you'll see a table listing all user-defined parameters (e.g., Box_Length, Box_Width, Box_Height, Wall_Thickness, etc.).
- Each parameter has a name, value, and unit (e.g., millimeters or inches).
- To modify a parameter, locate the parameter name in the table and update the value in the Expression or Value column. For example, change Box_Length = 100 mm to Box_Length = 150 mm to increase the box's length.
- Apply Changes:
- After editing the desired parameters, click OK to close the dialog box.
- Fusion 360 will automatically regenerate the model based on the new parameter values.
- Review and Save:
- Inspect the updated model to ensure it meets your requirements.
- Save the file to preserve your changes.
