🌀 Cable Winder – Two Sizes, Two Styles 🌀
I designed this cable winder in two different sizes and with two different surface finishes.
🔹 The smaller version (shown in blue) is perfect for everyday cables like USB cords, mouse cables, chargers, or small battery cables. This one has a smooth and clean design.
🔹 The larger version (shown in grey) is ideal for longer and thicker cables. It’s available in both a smooth finish and a diamond-pattern finish (as pictured).
So in total, there are 4 variations:
- Small smooth
- Small diamond
- Large smooth
Large diamond
I also added a reinforcement cylinder inside the center of the model, right where the cable is wound, to improve durability and stiffness.
👉 If you don’t need this feature, you can simply go to “Objects” → “Generic-Cylinder” in your slicer and delete it.
The difference in print time is minimal, so I personally recommend keeping it. However, if you prefer a lighter version, feel free to remove it.
🖨️ Materials used in my prints:
- Blue model → PA6 Glass Fiber (Bambu Lab)
- Grey model → ASA (Bambu Lab)
⚙️ Printing notes:
- For common filaments like PLA, PETG, ABS, and ASA, you can print the model as is.
For filaments with higher shrinkage (e.g. nylon PA6-GF), there is a risk that the inner spool layers might fuse with the first layer.
👉 To avoid this, set XY - Hole compensation = 0.25 mm in your slicer. This value is optimal to prevent fusion while keeping a precise fit, so the cable winds smoothly without leaving too much space around the core.
I tried XY - Hole compesation = 0.5mm to print the cable winder with PA6-GF Azure and it was a bit too loose, but the model is still functional.
That's why I suggest the value 0.25mm.
As a reminder the model in grey color was printed with Bambu Lab ASA and I didn't use XY - Hole compensation. You don't need to use this function for PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA.
