Cable Clip / Key Ring Holder
This 3D-printed cable clip keeps your desk cables tidy or doubles as a wall-mounted key ring holder. I designed it to solve the mess of cables along my desk and found it works great for keys or other small items too!
Features
- Versatile Use: Organizes cables (e.g., phone chargers) or holds keys and other small items on the wall.
- Cable Capacity: The 10mm diameter center circle can hold multiple USB cables, up to 2 Cat5/6 cables, or an RG6 coax cable without issue.
- Customizable Label: Add a label in Bambu Studio (3D printing software) to identify specific cables. For example, I labeled one "Phone Cable" to make it easy for family members to grab the right one.
- Multiple Mounting Options: Choose from 3M tape, magnets, screws, or zip ties to suit your setup.
- Compact Design: The base is the size of a US quarter (24.26mm diameter).
Materials Needed
- Base Mounting (Choose One):
- 3M Tape: 10mm wide 3M double-sided tape (my go-to for easy, secure mounting).
- Magnets: Two 8x2mm magnets for a removable setup.
- Screw: Standard drywall screw for permanent mounting.
- Zip Tie: Less than 5mm wide and 2mm thick.
- Latch and Body:
- Two 4x2mm magnets (optional but recommended for a secure latch).
- Filament Pin:
- A small piece of filament to secure the latch to the body. Insert it through the latch, cut to size with clippers, and wiggle it in until secure. If it breaks, insert from the other side until the pieces meet.
Installation
- Choose Your Base: Pick 3M tape, magnets, screws, or zip ties based on your needs.
- Attach Magnets (if using): Place 4x2mm magnets in the latch first, then press it into the body to secure.
- NOTE: 4x2 magnets are tricky and they are.. in my experence NEVER 4x2. so you might need some superglue with these since i did not make any type of tolerance with this. some of my 4x2 magnets fit snug, some of them done. If you print at .28 they will fit better then then if you print at .2 ( the latches with texts, to make the text more readable is .2 and they will more than likely need glue for the magnets)
- Insert Filament Pin: Thread a small piece of filament through the latch and body to hold them together. Trim excess with clippers.
- Mount the Clip: Attach to your desk or wall using your chosen method.
Customization
- Labeling: Use Bambu Studio to add text to the blank area on the clip (e.g., "Phone" or “Keys” Someones name maybe? ). If you're not comfortable with Bambu Studio, message me with your label request, I have no issues helping out.
- Feedback Welcome: Got ideas for improvements? Let me know!
Notes
- The 3M tape version has been the most convenient for me, sticking securely to desks or walls.
- Always open to suggestions for new features or tweaks!
