This is experimental NERF DART, that is supposed to be aerodynamic, self stabilising and flying longer and more accurate… That is theory, but the real behaviour of this bullet is quite inconsistent with my single shot blaster. Sometimes it flies crazy straight but next round it “takes corner”. Which might be caused by short and wide barrel of my blaster, but I believe, that the bullet maybe needs more tweaking and here are some ideas how you can play with it and maybe post your profiles if you achieve some good results:
- adjust the dimensions to your blaster - by controlling X and Y scale of dart in slicer you can adjust the diameter of the dart. By adjusting the Z scale you control the length of the dart.
- adjust the weight distribution and overall weight of the dart by controlling the top layers count - adding more top layers will make the tip of the bullet heavier, reducing number of top layers will make the dart's nose lighter. Avoid having more than 2 bottom layers to keep rear end as light as possible.
- print with 0.2 mm nozzle with single wall to reduce the weight drastically by making the dart walls thinner so you can add more weight to the nose
- glue a slice ot dart foam to the rear end of the dart to improve the dart's fit in the barrel
The recommendations and post-printing procedures:
- always print this dart with 0% infill, other ways it will not be able to load in the blaster
- remove brim and clean/send the edge to remove all residuum of brim.
- rub whole dart with fine sand paper to remove printing imperfections.
- puncture the lid of the rear hole.
- you can glue a ring of original NERF dart foam to the tail.
Please share your results. You are invited to check my Potato Cannon Ammo designs based on similar geometry.
And please, do not shoot at people or animals.
UPDATE #1
So far it seems like small blasters do not have enough power to fire the dart if it is too heavy, but on the other hand, we need to add some weight to the tip, for the dart to fly straight… Finding the ballance is crucial. So I have made a simple blowgun to test the dart with a power of your lungs and it brings better results than my Nerf pistol. If you want to give it a try, here is the link: Blowgun for Experimental Nerf Dart.
UPDATE #2
New lighter profile added - only 1.47 gram - much closer to original Nerf darts weight.
UPDATE #3
New slimmer profile added if the previous profiles are to thick for your blaster. Have fun!
UPDATE #4
Experimental MINI Nerf Dart is here!
