Descrição
This is a parametric design of a cord maker (sometimes associated with the Japanese Kumihimo technique). The default version uses 7 strings.
Bonus, but not required: There's a spool to hold the string; this prevents long strings from tangling.
Instructions:
Preparation:
- Print the cord disk. (Optionally print 7 spools)
- Cut 7 strands of string. (Optionally attach the strings to the spools)
- Align the strings and tie a knot.
- Pull the knot through the center hole.
- Distribute the 7 string across the 8 notches… one notch remains free.
Braiding:
- Hold the free notch towards you.
- Count three to the right. Take that string and place it in the free notch.
- Rotate the disc so that the free notch is at the bottom again, count to three and place it in the free notch.
- Repeat.
Tips:
- The tension is a determining factor in the resulting braid: Try to keep it constant. The spools aid in this, as they provide a constant weight.
- If your string is too thin: Double it up multiple times.
