Munro Mini Tree – Christmas Light Display
The Munro Mini Tree is designed for WS2811 pixels and stands just shy of four feet tall (3'8"). The frame is constructed from ¾" PVC pipe, with ½" drilled holes spaced approximately 2" apart. This spacing allows for 19 pixels per leg and 50 pixels for the star, totaling 145 pixels.
The design includes a few extra pixels so you can continue the string at the base, avoiding the need for a splice connection across the large jump between legs. Spacing can be adjusted to fit your own layout preferences.
Assembly Tips
- Dry Fit First
Assemble the entire tree without screws before drilling or finalizing. This ensures alignment and avoids unnecessary rework. - Tree Support Pipe
Secure the tree support pipe to the topper base before attaching the legs. Space is tight once the legs are in place, making adjustments difficult later. - Fasteners
The design is built around 8/32 x 1½" screws, but tolerance is tight. You may find a slightly longer screw provides a more secure fit. - Print Tolerance
Tolerance for the Star topper may differ on your printer. I found in some cases that using ½ hole drill bit ensure the tolerance fit perfect for each pixel.
Mounting
The tree is designed to sit on a piece of rebar driven into the ground. For added stability, you can also drill and insert additional fasteners into the base.
Notes
- xLights Model
An .xmodel file for the base is not included. You’ll need to create your own in xLights. - Wiring Reference
A reference photo is included in the files, showing the wiring configuration used in the sample build.
