I designed this multiboard-compatible spool holder/roller to solve my issue of having too many spools of filament and an empty looking multiboard.

Unlike most designs I found while looking for something to hold my filament, this design is perpendicular to the board. Therefore making it much more space efficient. 

I have designed this to be 100mm wide exactly. This means it takes up 4 multiboard slots and can be mounted directly next to eachother for maximum space efficiency.

This design allows for space efficient filament storage, as well as a roller for your printer to pull from directly!

I have designed this to use minimal supports, there is a file included for non AMS users and a file for AMS users to use PLA as a support interface for easier support removal.

Everything you need to fit this is in the 3mf, including the 4 multiboard 9mm small screws to mount it.

If people do not have the tools to use heat inserts, let me know and I will make a version that uses hex nuts instead :)

BOM:

608 bearing x2

M4 heat inserts x6

M4 x 10 cap head screws x6

Superglue (for gluing roller together)

PETG for printed parts ( I used TINMORRY PETG eco, very cheap on amazon)

Assembly:

Press 3 heat inserts into each arm

Attach arms to backplate using all 6 screws

Glue roller top to roller(there are 3 alignment pins and a keyed hole for the pin that needs to be correctly oriented)

Glue pins into each end of the roller (ensure they are fully pressed in)

Push a 608 bearing onto the end of each pin(it should sit flush with the end of the pin NOT the roller.

Attach to multiboard using 4 small screws

Drop roller assembly into slots in the arm

You're done!

Print settings:

0.4mm nozzle

0.28mm layer height( saves a little time and still looks great)

PETG (PLA for support interface if desired)

15% cubic infill
