Descrição
A flower wind spinner for the garden
Design
Designed for 3D printing without supports.
Flower prints cleanly with good surface quality.
Spinner stick printed horizontally, for strength.
No need for bearings. A simple point has shown to work very well, with no signs of wear after a month of use.
Printing
Key settings in the supplied print profile
- Bottom shell thickness: 1mm - to ensure good support inside the hole, and add a little extra weight at the bottom
- For the sticks: 3 walls, for extra strength
Filament choice
For the support stick, avoid printing in black or other very dark colours if it's going to be used in direct sunlight. (In the pictured prototype, one of the support sticks softened and bent in a British summer)
Don't use any abrasive filaments, such as glow-in-the-dark or carbon fiber reinforced, as I expect the point bearing would wear out.
I've only tested with PLA. I expect PETG would be fine
Assembly
Two options for the support stick
- A single piece 25cm stick
A two part 42cm stick
Glue the two parts together, and hold together with string or zip-ties. I recommend keeping the string/zip-ties in place after the glue is dry for additional strength.
Credits
I was inspired by this design, but had trouble getting a clean and strong print.
