PrintScope – High-Quality Optics, Maker-Powered Frame
Description:
PrintScope is a modular, fully 3D-printable microscope designed to deliver professional-grade imaging on a budget—without compromising quality. By combining precision 3D-printed components with standard commercial eyepieces and objective lenses, PrintScope keeps costs low while maintaining exceptional optical performance.
Perfect for educators, students, makers, and field researchers,
PrintScope features:
- A complete 3D-printed structure: optical tube, stand, and XY slide stage (X-Y-stage: [https://makerworld.com/en/models/1519262-x-y-mechanical-stage-for-printscope#profileId-1591948](https://makerworld.com/en/models/1519262-x-y-mechanical-stage-for-printscope#profileId-1591948))
- A slot to insert an iris diaphragm to fine-tune illumination—compatible with any 3D-printable iris design that fits (I used Iris Mechanism Fidget V2 by GemoGens)
- Built-in light source mount compatible with the Bambu Lab MakerWorld LED Lamp
- Compact and easy-to-print components—ideal for classrooms, DIY labs, and field use
🛒 Lenses & Eyepieces
To get the best optical results, simply add standard components:
- Eyepiece: 23 mm barrel diameter – widely available on AliExpress, Amazon, or other science suppliers
- Objective lens: RMS (Royal Microscopical Society) thread standard – highly compatible with affordable microscope objectives online
💡 Friendly Note:
If you're used to heavy-duty professional microscopes, PrintScope may feel a bit light or less rigid by comparison. That’s the tradeoff for using 3D-printed materials—it’s lightweight, affordable, and accessible, with the only costly parts being the optical lenses. Despite its simplicity, it performs impressively where it matters: image quality.
