Description
I was working on a model that needed some threaded parts. And my printing and designing of threads was a bit hit and miss. So after a bit of research I modeled a set of Metric thread tests in Fusion (using the fusion thread feature that is standard). I then printed these off using BL PLA Matte, and a layer height of 0.1. They are actually pretty nice fidget tools too for those technically focused. The idea is to give the designer a much more tactile and tangible idea of what a threaded part would look like and work like on the design. The profiles are for a 0.12mm but 0.20 also works just as well. This first set are ISO Metric in normal and Trapezoid threads. It IMPORTANT that when you model the threads in Fusion you slightly offset the thread faces by 0.1mm (basically you are making the thread faces a tiny bit smaller). Otherwise the threads will bind. This offset is represented on the printed text on each widget as the “Q” value and which faces to offset is shown in one of the Fusion images in the project.
