NOTE:
This design is also parametrized, meaning that if you want any other size, it is possible. I can publish other sizes as well, or maybe even the FreeCAD files after I am done testing that everything works perfectly.
Size:
The box is designed to be 40 mm x 40 mm x 80 mm (W x H x L). It has a wall thickness of 2 mm, with tolerances of 0.4 mm, which means it should print fine with any printer. The inside box dimensions are the same, just the dimension - wall thickness * 2 - tolerance * 2.
Use / Assembly
Print the case and the inside box. If you want to connect multiple boxes, print the hexagonal "side connect" (which is a hexagon with a radius 0.1 mm smaller than the holes) and connect it to the side or on the top or bottom of the box. Snap two boxes together, done!
You can connect as many boxes as you want, either stacked on top of each other or placed alongside each other. Use multiple connects for better adherence. For a permanent solution, glue can be used.
If you are done adding boxes and want to cover the holes, use the "Flush Connect", maybe some glue as well.
Design Concept
This hexagonal grid design is both visually appealing and functional, allowing for a reduction in material use and weight while maintaining structural integrity. The use of contrasting colors enhances its aesthetic value.
Purpose
The object serves as a modular storage unit, capable of keeping small items organized. Its stackable design makes it versatile for various arrangements. I personally use it for component storage, but it can be used to store anything that fits.
Printing Recommendations
Print with PLA or PETG to ensure durability. Supports shouldn't be necessary if you orient the parts correctly.
Print info
Uses about 22 g of filament for the outside case, 22 g for the inside, and for 4 side connects and flush connects about 1 g. A set of all these can be printed in about 1.5 h, depending on the printer and settings.
