Descrição
This is a Downdraft Table I designed to reduce the amount of carbon dust I leave floating around the shop while cutting carbon tubes. Attached to a shop vac, this creates enough suction to effectively capture dust particles caused by most of the “destructive manufacturing” techniques we use as makers. I use this when I'm cutting carbon tubes, sanding foam/wood, and even mixing microballons/plaster. This does NOT replace the need for a respirator, but it does greatly reduce the amount of stray particles floating around in the air after working.
You'll find several different objects in the 3MF files. You need to print the Base, one Top Plate, and one Hose Adapter. There are test objects for the Base and Top plate so you can check clearance fits before committing to printing a half kilo of plastic.
Parts needed:
- 4x M3x8 Bolts
- 4x M3x4x5 Heat Set Inserts
- 6x M4x8x6 Heat Set Inserts (Optional)
- 6x M4x12 Bolts (Optional)
- Thin Cardboard (Cereal Box or similar)
Base:
The Base is the same in both the .4mm version and .6mm version, the top plates are where I adjust clearances. It is designed to have a cut away support printed over the hose adapter hole, so you do not need to enable supports. To complete the base you will need to hot glue a piece of thin cardboard (cereal box or similar), cut to 208x222mm, unto the slanted support structure.

Top Plates:
Right now there are two versions. One is “blank” top plate, and the other has a 2"x2" grid pattern. The grid pattern is sized for M4x8Lx6W threaded inserts for hold down tools and supports. I've designed a tube cutter and bench pucks for this so far, and I plan to add more tools as time goes on. The blank plate is in STEP format, so remix away! The plates come in .4 and .6 nozzle versions to compensate for the extra clearance slop the .6 nozzle creates. You can control the hole pattern by changing the infill % and type. 55% infill and tri-hexagon are what I have settled on, but your use case may differ. You can use the thinner test plates to test out different combos.

Hose Adapters:
At this time I only have designs for 1.75" and 1.25" vacuum hoses (sorry metric friends). I have NOT been able to test the 1.25" version but the clearance fit should be the same as the 1.75" hose. Let me know if you have any issues with it. I've included a blank adapter plate in STEP so that you can design your own Hose Adapter if you'd like.
Construction:
-Cut out the built-in support disc covering the hose port on the Base.
-Cut out 208x222mm cardboard floor and glue in
-Heat set the 4x M3x4x5 threaded inserts into the holes next to the hose port
-(Optional) Heat set 6x M4x8x6 inserts into Top Plate
-Attach Hose Adapter Plate with M3x8 socket head screws.
