Coffee Portion Container – Designed for the OutIn Portable Espresso Machine
This small but highly functional container is tailored for outdoor coffee enthusiasts who value both convenience and preparation. Specifically designed to match the OutIn Portable Espresso System, it allows you to bring five pre-measured coffee doses wherever you go – neatly stacked and securely sealed.
Structure and Capacity
The container consists of a cylindrical outer shell that houses five flat trays, each with a shallow grip tab on the side for easy removal. Each tray comfortably holds up to 20 grams of either whole coffee beans or ground coffee, making it easy to prepare consistent espresso shots even when off the grid.
The number of trays (5) was chosen based on real-world use: the OutIn espresso machine can be used around five times per charge when brewing with cold water. So one full container equals one full day of adventure-ready espresso.
Lid & Usage Features
The screw-on lid features tight tolerances to prevent accidental opening in a backpack or pouch. Over time, the threading becomes smoother through use, making the lid easier to open and close, but never loose. When removed, the lid also serves a second purpose:
It can be used as a coaster for your espresso cup – especially practical on uneven surfaces during hikes or picnics.
The empty trays themselves can also double as small dishes or coasters, adding to the container’s practical outdoor use.
Printing and Materials
The print was split into three main parts:
- The outer container body
- The lid with textured edge
- The five removable trays
Printing setup:
- Printed on the H2D 3D printer, utilizing its larger build volume and dual-color swap system.
- The outer shell and lid were printed in PLA for a clean and firm result.
- The trays were printed in PETG, chosen for its food-safe properties, chemical resistance, and slight flexibility, which is ideal for repeated insertion and removal.
No magnets, no snap-fit mechanisms, and no inner grid were used – all parts rely solely on precise fitting and friction.
The design is optimized for practicality, compactness, and portability. The full container takes up minimal space in a backpack, yet ensures that you’ll have enough fresh coffee on hand for a long day outdoors – regardless of whether you use whole beans or pre-ground coffee.
