Dice Wars – Game Manual
Players: 1 to 4
Game Types:
- Solitaire (1 player)
- Individual (2–4 players)
- Teams (4 players, in pairs)
Components:
- 1–4 player boards with numbered tiles (1–12)
- 2 accessible dice (specially designed for both blind and sighted players)
General Objective
The goal in all game modes is to turn down (or "flip") all the numbered tiles on your board by matching the sum of a dice roll with available tile combinations.
Game Modes
1. Solitaire (1 Player)
Setup:
- Use one board with all 12 tiles upright.
- Use two dice.
Gameplay:
- Roll both dice.
- The sum of the dice determines the total value you may use to flip one or more tiles.
- For example: if you roll a 5, you may flip:
- Tile 5
- Tiles 4 + 1
- Tiles 3 + 2
- For example: if you roll a 5, you may flip:
- You may only flip tiles that are still upright. If a needed tile is already flipped, that combination is not allowed.
- If no valid combination exists, your turn ends.
Winning Condition:
- You win if you manage to flip all 12 tiles.
2. Individual Mode (2–4 Players)
Setup:
- Each player has their own board with all 12 tiles upright.
- Use two dice shared among players.
Gameplay:
- Players take turns rolling both dice.
- Follow the same rules as Solitaire mode for flipping tiles.
- If a player cannot make a valid move, their turn is skipped.
Winning Condition:
- The first player to flip all 12 of their tiles wins the game.
3. Teams (4 Players)
Setup:
- Arrange four boards in a square.
- Players sitting across from each other form a team.
- Each team thus has two boards (24 tiles total).
- Use two dice.
Gameplay:
- Teams take turns. Each player rolls the dice on their turn.
- The total rolled can be split between team members.
- Example: You roll a 2 + 6 = 8.
- You can flip 4 on your board and your teammate flips 4 (4 + 4 = 8).
- Or, one of you may flip the full 8 alone.
- Example: You roll a 2 + 6 = 8.
- As in other modes, combinations are only valid if the tiles are still upright.
- Teammates may discuss their moves before making a decision.
Winning Condition:
- The first team to flip all 24 tiles (12 per player) wins.
Important Rule – Dead End:
If a player only has tile 1 remaining, the game ends for them, since the lowest possible roll is 2 (1 + 1).
However, the other player(s) still get one final turn.
At the end, the player (or team) with the fewest remaining tiles is declared the winner.
Accessibility – Inclusive Dice Design
Dice Wars is inclusive for both sighted and visually impaired players.
Each tile features a Braille number in the top-left corner
The dice used in Dice Wars are specially designed to be accessible to both blind and sighted players.
They feature a unique tactile design that allows players to feel and identify the numbers without sight.
