This model stacks - but DOES NOT cross-stack.
I discovered that when stair stacking these bins (e.g. 2x3 on top of a 2x4 bin) the front and rear perimeter impacts the bins below. The improved version (Mk1-Thin) corrects this misalignment.
There is also a Mk2 version, which allows stacking and cross stacking (e.g. a 2x3 bin on top of a 4x5 bin). The outer perimeter width is redesigned to align with Gridfinity spacing, which makes them thicker for more reliable printing
Both Mk1 and Mk2 versions include a handle design incorporating a ½ space Gridifinity base AND a knock out for insertable sign panel.
Original listing for profile posted.
A stackable bin for Gridfinity bins.
This bin fits eight unit tall Gridfinity bins up to 2x4 in dimension. The Gridfinity base allows you to insert 8u bins, stack another container on top and everything interlocks.
Additionally, the bins stack on their own. There is a small tab towards the rear which keeps them from sliding. You can put smaller than 8 unit tall Gridfinity bins inside and they will hold their place but not be locked at the top.
The exterior floor uses the half size Gridfinity. I have found this is a useful feature, while keeping the same filament usage when printing.
The front of the bin includes a handle which allows you to pick it up.
Regarding this file specifically: The bin is modeled in two parts, the floor and the perimeter. Using the halfspace Gridfinity exterior you do not need to use infill. But the upper walls, particularly the mating lip benefit from having infill.
I painted supports onto the front handle to provide a clean appearance; for this width bin it is roughly 2 g of filament. You could print it without supports, but it does string a little. I think it is worth the extra filament for a much cleaner finished product.
I also painted brims at the corners which helps with lifting on larger prints.
I have some additional large sizes underway including 5x5 and 4x5 - all 8 unit tall. I have considered 10 or 12 unit tall versions but 8 fits my need for now. If there are other dimensions or heights you would like please ask.
I included one comparison picture with my Gridfinity crate. It is a similar interlocking model. The primary difference is the bins are for use at my build table (need handles) and the crates are for use as my travel kit (need to be enclosed). At present they don’t stack directly with each other, but maybe there is a tweak…
I primarily use the minimum lip Gridfinity bins by Ostat generated (link below) but should work with any standard bins.
