This is the first part of a totally modular 3d printed “furniture” system! Please check in regularly for new expansion modules that enhance the functionality and scope of the base model. Like Meccano for furniture!
Please read the instructions carefully and write if you need any more information.
Hello fellow 3d printing nerds, this is my most ambitious project to date. I know it sounds crazy but I think 3d printed furniture is awesome.
This is the first piece, a small bench that has different slide in top modules with a different look or function.
Assembly is quite straightforward and self explanatory.
Dimensions are 325 mm x 325 mm for the top. Height is 350 mm
Print :
4 x Plate 4
4 x plate 8
2x plate 6 or 7 depending on how tight you want the joiners to fit into the holes.
for the top either:
1 x plate 1 or
1x plate 5 or
1x plates 2 and 3 if you want the storage box option.
Plate 9 in TPU is optional but recommended if you don't want the bench to slide around (use a dab of glue here)
Plate 10 is an optional leg extension if you want the bench to be a little taller.
Recommendations:
First attach two corner pieces together, do this two times. Use M4 x 35 self tapping wood screws and the Slim Joiner from plate 7 that has small pilot holes. Don't overdo the screw in force, tighten them just enough so that the faces of the two pieces meet snugly and don't move. You will need a screwdriver with a long shank to get to the end of the hole.
Second slide in the top module into one of the halves and then slide the other half and screw in as before. (refer to picture 3)
Third attach the bottom part of the legs (with or without the extension) using the the slim joiner and M4 x 20 screws: use this method you intend to disassemble the bench at some time in the future.
If you want a more permanent stable and sturdy build use the slightly larger joiners from plate 6 and some glue for maximum stability. In this case screws are optional but recommended, install the screws after the glue has set.
Plugs for all screw holes are provided but only install them at the very end when you are satisfied with your build.
As always, a warped print will compromise tolerances , dimensional accuracy and build quality. Always use dry high quality filament on a clean print bed. I learned the hard way using cheap 10€/kg filament resulting many failed and warped pieces that I had to throw away. My most successful prints were made with Bambu PLA on a Cool Plate Super Tack. Please also remember that this is a 3d printed piece, while all effort has been made to make it sturdy it cannot be compared to an injection molded part. Use with care.
If you have any questions or suggestions for future upgrades please write.
HAPPY PRINTING!
