This is the GERMAN version of the hugely successful Word Clock by johniak. 

I also made an Arabic version that can be found here.

If you built the Raspberry Pi Zero version …

After installing the English version, replace the python files word_clock.py and clock_display_hal.py by the German versions provided here.

I recreated this clock version using Fusion 360 following the dimensions of the original and modified the Python code accordingly.

I also added the code as text files below, make sure to replace these files on the raspberry zero, otherwise the wrong letters will light up.

Update 9 May 2025: Minor fix in the python code to correct the display of “ES IST EINS UHR” to “ES IST EIN UHR”.

Update 3 June 2025: If you built the ESP32 version …

I transcribed the python code  (word_clock.py and clock_display_hal.py) to C++ for the ESP32 (WordClock.cpp and ClockDisplayHAL.cpp).

The code is added as text files below, make sure to replace these files on the ESP32, otherwise the wrong letters will light up.

NOTE: I could not test the as I do not have an ESP32 … if you manage to make it work, or have any issues, please let me know.

Update 4 June 2025: Thank you to @user_1815138091 for fixing a minor bug .. I updated the file, so I guess it should now be working for the ESP32 as well. 

Update 15 June 2025: Fixed a logical error in the ESP32 WordClock.cpp file that resulted in displaying the wrong hour for minutes ≥ 25
