This 3D printable model represents the basic layers of a volcano, unlike traditional cutaway diagrams, this model presents the volcano as a layered puzzle, allowing students to reveal each geological section step by step, enhancing their understanding of volcanic structures and eruptions.

It consists of four interlocking pieces:

• Mantle & Rising Lava: The base structure where all parts fit.
• Crust: The outer layer through which lava passes.
• Surface & Volcano: The terrain and volcano shape.
• Smoke & Eruption: The upper part, representing the volcanic cloud.
• Extra: If you’d like, you can print a rectangular base as the core. The model is in the STL list.

The model was initially generated using AI-assisted image-to-3D conversion and then refined and modified in Blender.

I’m not an expert in Blender, and I’ve spent more hours on it than I would have liked, but this model has helped me learn how to work with meshes, modifying and separating them into pieces. I hope you appreciate the work that went into it, even though it started from an AI-generated model.

It is optimized for easy 3D printing in multiple colors without requiring a multi-material printer. Perfect for educational purposes, this model provides a hands-on learning experience about volcanoes and geology.
 

Printing Instructions

This model is optimized for high quality. The original AI-generated mesh from Maker Lab has been remeshed for better detail.

• Recommended layer height: 0.12mm for best quality (due to the small scale).
• Can be scaled up and printed at 0.2mm with excellent results.
• If you need a specific print profile for a bigger version, leave a comment, and I'll upload it as soon as I have a moment.

For a more immersive experience, visual and tactile, I used:

• Wood-filled PLA for the crust
• Magic Silver PLA for the volcano
• Glitter Orange PLA 850 for the lava
• Light Gray PLA for the ash cloud

This gives a very distinctive touch to each part of the volcano, .However, basic colors work just as well.
