OpenThrow
OpenThrow is an open standard for 3d printing high quality yo-yos that work right off the build plate. The halves are printed in four parts and no longer uses the “hub” part from previous models. That will still be included in the files above for making your own designs so you can boolean it into your model.
The Synestia
No longer a prototype, the Synestia is a fully modern 3d printed yo-yo. It features a fingerspin cup with a "divot" to maximize fingerspinability. It's 60mm wide and has a much wider gap than the comfort grip thanks to no longer being highwall and adds some stripes for added style. The new profile is spindle shaped as opposed to organic shaped, but watch for new profiles in the future.
Non Printed parts list:
- 16mm M4x0.7mm set screw. (20mm will also work)
- 18-8 m4 acorn cap nut or similar sized nut. The ones used in the model are these
- 6.35mm x 12.7mm x4 size “c” yo-yo bearing. The bearings used here are ones from other yo-yos. These will work
- yyf sized response. These will work
Customize the weight
While you can adjust the infill to make it heavier or lighter, the parts as they sit on the build plate will create a 67g yo-yo if you use the offical print profile.
Printing
The yo-yo should be printed exactly as configured in the slicer for best results. The critical configuration is:
- supports on build plate only
- random seam
- high quality preset
- 2 walls
- 70% infill with 15% infill on all other parts should produce a roughly 67g yo-yo.
- not necessary but highly recommended: use a petg support interface
Assembly
- Insert the acorn nut into the center hole
- put cap on top of axle hole. You can glue this with a touch of super glue if it's a bit loose but the rest of the parts will hold it in.
- add the core, press it down on top of the cap.
- insert either the fingerspin weight or the ring weight.
- add response pads
- add the axle and the bearing
